If phone is not shipped in open state then use your thumbs to slide the back cover up and lift it off the phone. You can insert a thumbnail in to a slot on the phones top or edge, and pop off the back cover. You can now add or remove phone parts
Tip – if you here a clicking or popping sound , this normal when you remove backcover
If your phone does not have a removable back cover then it means it has a non removable battery
Installing Battery
The battery is the first thing to install with a andoid phone but before installing the battery insert Microsd card in slot if you want one.
Follow these steps to install battery in to phone
Carefully remove the battery from its plastic bag.
properly see the orientataion of the battery, look for a arrow to find hint.
place the battery in its position so that contacts on the battey should match with connecters inside phone
insert battery on pjhone as you close the lid of the box.
Removing the battery
In future if you want to remove battery for any cause follow these steps
remove phones back cover
locate pull tab aound battery in the corner
lift the battery out of phone
tip – if you plan to replace battery with new one, store the original in a nonmetallic box in a dark dry location. Be very careful if you dispose battery, it is a very hazardous waste.
Installing the SIM card
To install a sim follow these steps
remove sim card from its container
insert the sim card in to sim card slot
sim card slot may be below the battery
tip – SIM stands for subscriber identity module
Understanding the microSD card
Andoid phones have two types of storage internal and external. External storage comes in a form of memory card, most of andoid phones use microSD form
microSD card comes in capacity known as gigabytes (GB). Common microSD card capacities are 8GB,16gb, 32Gb, 64 GB. Your phones maximum card size depends on its design and mentioned on its box
stpes to Install the microSD card
remove phones back cover ( Newer phones have card slot on outside edge, check this before removing back cover )
find the card slot ( check if it below the battery )
insert the microSD card with poper side , you may here a clicking sound when card is fully installed.
Tip – its ok to insert card when phone is on, you may see a prompt with information about the card.

To remove follow these steps
turn off the phone
Using your fingernail press the microSD card inward , card is sping loaded, so pressing it pops it outwards
pinch the card with fingers and remove
tip – keep microSD card in a safe place, you can use same card in any phone, your phone also works witout card , SD stands for Secure Digital
Charge the Battery
To charge battery for first time follow these steps
Assemble the chaging cord ( connect the chager head to the USB cable )
plug the chager head in to socket
Plug the phone into the USB cable.

As the phone starts charging a notification light comes on screen and charging battery graphic on the touchscreen starts .
Tip - You can charge the phone in your car, using a cigarette lighter. ensure that your car-phone-charger device features the proper connector for your phone. phone also charges itself whenever iplugged into a computer by a USB cable. The computer must be on for charging to work.Adding accessories

1. a docking system - A docking station is a heavy base into which you can set your phone. The most basic model simply props up the phone to see it easily.
2.Car mount - If you plan to use the phone while driving, a car mount is a must. It provides a structure into which you set your Android phone. It also have a cable you can use to charge the phone while you drive. the phone becomes handy and visible for making calls, listening to music, finding navigation.
3. HDMI cable - If your Android phone has an HDMI connector, you can obtain an HDMI cable. Using the cable, your phone can fling its sound and image onto a computer monitor or TV screen. With this the whole family can sit around large-screen TV and enjoy movies.
First things to do after grabbing your phone
Turning on your phone for the first time
When you turn you phone on for first time it’s a special occasion. Follow these steps to turn on the phone properly
press the power or lock key ( you have to press for longer, when phones logo appears you can release )
there will be prompt asking you questions about configuration of phone
a) select your language
b) activate on your cell network
c) set the time zone
d) activate wi-fi if needed
e) sgn in google accout
f) add location information
all above questions are self explainatory , you must have a valid google account to use services associated with it
after you make each choice press the next button and finish the procedure.
this is the one time setup, you don’t have to do this every time, when you turn your phone after this you will see phones unlock screen, there is a standard slide lock. To unlock the phone touch the padlock icon and keeping fingers down slide across phones touchscreen, once the phone is unlocked you can begin using it.
Tip – you don’t have to turn on phone much in future, you can simply unlock it (see next part)Unlocking the phone
Most of the time you don’t have to turn you phone on and off. Instead you lock and unlock it, to do this press the power key. A quick press is needed and phones touchscreen comes to life and you see unlocked screens.
There are three most popular unlocking patterns
the pattern lock – most popular you have to press your finger over the dots along a preset pattern
the pin lock requires that you type a secrete number to unlock phone.
the password lock is most secure, you have to type a multicharacter password to unlock
tip – for incoming calls there is no need to unlock phone, more advanced screen locks like face unlock and finger touch unlock are coming with new phones.
Account Setup
Your android phone is source for your various online interactions. Your e-mail accounts , online services, social networking, subscriptions, you must add all these accounts to phone
Adding accounts to your phone
You can add various in initial setup and configuration of phone, but you may also add these accounts later, follow these steps to do so with your phone turned on and unlocked.
go to Home screen – this is a main screen on your phone, you can go there easily by touching the home icon at bottom of touchsceen.
touch the main apps icon – this icon is located at bottom of home screen, after touching it you see the apps drawer which contains all the apps installed
choose the settings icon to start app – from all the apps choose setting icon, this allows to access internal options, control. The account section in setting app list all accounts currently associated with your phone. You will see your google account and other accounts listed.
choose the add account item.- there is a add account item in setting app, if you cant find it then find another app called accounts & sync, touch the add account icon.
choose an account to add from list that is shown – if you don’t see the account you want, then you have to install a specific app for account to appear,follow the steps on screen to sign in to your account
tip – you can continue to add various accounts, when finished touch the home icon to return
Controlling the lock timeout
We have seen locking and unlocking in previous sections, android phone locks itself after a given period of inactivity, normally after 1 min of not touching the phone. The screen dims and phone locks itselfs.
To control this duration follow these steps
go to home screen , touch the apps icon
open the settings app
choose display option
choose the sleep or screen time out time
choose a timeout duration from list ( standard is 1 min )
touch the home icon to return.
