Basic Operations of android phone.


Manipulating the touchscreen
Touchscreen works in combination with one or two fingers. Here are some of the many ways you manipulate phones touchscreen

Touch
This is a simple opration, you touch the screen to an object such as icon or control

Longpress
Touch and hold down part of the screen, such as moving an icon on the home screen, it is called as long press drag

Swipe
In this operation you start with your finger in one spot and then drag it to another spot. This could be up,down,left or right.this moves in the direction you swipe

Doubletouch
This is used to zoom in or out an image or map

Pinch
This involves two fingers starting separated and then are brought together, this is also used to zoom image and map

Rotate
Using your two fingers to twist around central point on touchscreen like rotating an object on screen

Exploring the navigation icons

These are located below touchscreen or part of the touchscreen itself

you’ll find three navigation icons

Back

Touching this icon brings you back to previous page, dismiss menu, close window and onscreen keyboard

Home

Touching this icon brings you to homescreen from anywhere in the phone

 
Recent

Toucing this icon displays list of recently opened or now running apps



Tip- different phone use different set of icons and may have additional icons.you can press and hold home icon to see recent app list. There is also an answer icon on some phones below touchscrrn to answer incoming call directly. You may find a menu icon also
Setting the volume
The volume key is located on the side of the phone, you can press the top part of the key to up the volume or bottom part to lowar the volume. As you press the volume key a graphic appears on the screen to show volume level up or down.


Tip – volume keys contol all the noise of phone, it is used to set volume level of call duing a call, and music and video volume.when this volume is set all the way down,the phone is silenced.volume key worked even when phone is locked.

Silence your phone
You can do so by pressing the volume key bottom end. When you press power key, phone option menu displays with option to silence or vibrate the phone. After silencing phone an icon appears on the status bar

Changing the orientation
Android phones have an accelerometer function. This function is used by apps to determine in which direction the phone is pointed. 

The easy way to see how the vertical-horizontal orientation function works follow these steps –

starts phones web browser app – this is found on the home screen like chrome browser, after starting open a webpage

tilt the phone to the left – after doing this the page switchs itself to the horizontal or landscape orientation

tilt the phone upright again – the web page retuns to its original position

Home Screen tasks
Home screen is most important part of the phone,this is the location fom where you handle your phone. 

Status bar – the top of the home screen is a thin strip called as status bar. It shows notification icons and current time

Notifications – these icons come and go as you receive a new email, message etc.

Phone status – this is at the right end of status bar displays signal strength, battery condition, wi fi connwction, vibration mode etc

App icons – these icons are placed on screen for easy navigation to an app installed

Widgets – this progam lets you control phone, acesss an app

Folders - Many apps can be stored in a folder, touching it pops-up a window listing all apps in that folder

Wallpaper – this is background image you see on homescreen


Tip – the home screen is completely customizable. You may add remove icons, add various widgets and shortcuts,change wallpapers.

Accessing multiple Home screens


There is not only one homescreen, you have all your phone arranged in different screens , to swithch from one panel from another, swipe the home screen left or right, when you touch the home icon, you are return to main home screen. You can see overview of all homesceens by double-touching the home icon. There could be three to seven homescreen panels may be present depending on your phone and apps.

Reviewing notifications

Notifications appears as icons at the top of left of homescreen in status bar. To review them you can pull down the notification bar by dragging finger fom top of screen downwards.


Touch a notification to see what app generated it. It may be an e-mail, whatsapp message etc, you can dismiss the notification by sliding it right or left,to dismiss all notifications touch the clear icon.


Tip – some ongoing notifications can not be dismissed, a usb connection notification stays active until it is disconnected. Dismissed notification may appear again to grab your attention like progam updates. Some apps only display notification when you are logged in, like facebook, whatsapp. Phones plays preset sound or ringtone when new notification comes.
Accessing quick actions
The flip side or other icon in notification bar is quick action drawer, this lists icons that provide access and shortcuts to common phone apps. Touch this other icon to see quick action drawer with apps like setting etc listed.



Starting an app
When you touch an apps icon, the app starts. App is a short for application. if you want to quit an app simply touch the home icon to return to the home screen. You can keep touching the back icon to get out of an app. Some apps have a quit or exit command, but you don’t need to do it like on a pc.

Finding an app in the apps drawer
The place where you find all apps installed on your Android phone is the apps drawer. To view apps drawer touch the apps icon on home screen. Then you see the apps drawer, swipe through the icons left and right o up down across screen. To run an app touch its icon. As you add new apps, they appear in apps drawer, these apps are arranged alphabetically but you can arrange them as you like.

Switching apps
Apps don’t quit when you dismiss them fom screen, they stay running in background. You can switch between running apps by touching the recent icon. Coose the app you want to switch to from list of running apps. If there is no recent icon press and hold the home icon to see running apps. There is also a task manager app which lets you view and switch apps and close apps.

Understanding Android apps
Many android apps have a similer design to provide consistancency though apps. It helps to learn interface of new apps.
